Q: What meals are included at Wayfarer Camp?
A: At Converse College: All meals are included. The first meal is dinner on the first day. The last meal is lunch on the last day.
At the Beach: Seven meals are included. The first meal is dinner on the first day. The last meal is dinner on the last night. Wayfarer Camp provides lunches and dinners, but breakfast is on your own each day.
Q: When do I need to show up to camp?
A: At Converse College: Registration is open between 1 and 3 p.m. on the first day of camp. The camp program begins at 3 p.m.
At the Beach: The Crown Reef Resort will allow your church to check in starting at 3 p.m. The camp program begins with the youth minister meeting at 6:30 that evening.
Q: I see soaking on the schedule. What is that?
A: Soaking has become a tradition at Wayfarer Camp. It is a time when we open the worship room early to allow students and adult leaders to come and soak in the Lord’s presence. Camp is a very exciting with an active schedule, and we believe soaking allows all of us to slow down and catch our breath before corporate worship. During the soaking time, music is played, and we will show Scripture and prayer exercises on screen. Soaking is optional.
Q: What will the service project at Wayfarer Camp be?
A: The students have come to LOVE the service projects at Wayfarer Camp! In the past we have done everything from a free car wash to revitalizing homes in an entire community. No matter what the project is, each year we use the service project to extend what is happening in the students’ lives and across camp into the community around us. This year, we are planning some really exciting things. We will release details on our projects in early 2012.
Q: What is the age group for Wayfarer Camps?
A: Wayfarer Camp is open to rising sixth graders through twelfth graders. In the past, there have been many college freshman who wanted to come to camp. We have put those students together so that they are their own group for Huddle times and service and recreation. You may also choose to register rising college freshmen as adult leaders
Q: How many adult leaders do I need to bring?
A: At Converse College, bring one adult leader per 8 students.
At the Beach, bring one adult leader per 6 students.
Q: What role do the adult leaders play at Wayfarer Camp?
A: Adult Leaders are vital to the success of Wayfarer Camp. We rely on adult leaders to lead campers at camp along with our camp staff. Adult leaders play two roles. First, they serve as your chaperones in the dorms, cafeteria, worship center, and everywhere else! Second, they also lead Huddles. During Huddle times, they will lead campers through lessons created for them by our team. Outside of Huddle, they will lead those same campers at recreation and service projects.
We realize that this can be an intimidating task, and so we do everything we can to set adult leaders up to succeed. We send out Wayfarer Camp curriculum several weeks in advance so adult leaders can prepare before arriving at camp if they choose. We ask youth ministers to register adult leaders according to their strengths (Teacher, Assistant, Chaperone) so that we can properly support them in their Huddles. Most importantly, we take time to teach the teachers each day, as the camp speakers and leaders pour into adult leaders with information that they can use at camp but also take beyond camp. Leaders have told us these times are among the most valuable parts of the week!
Q: Who is David Reichley and why does everyone like him so much?
A: David serves as our camp director. He’s funny, good looking, talented, and married with four kids, and is a very bad dancer. We mean terrible. But because he is camp director, Dancing with David is a MANDATORY part of camp!
Q: What is the housing style at Wayfarer Camp?
A: At Converse College, housing is in college dormitories. There will be 2-4 people per room depending on to which dorm students and adults are assigned.
At the Beach, housing is in hotel rooms. Each room is equipped with a full kitchen. There will be 4-8 people per room depending on the style. Visit crownreef.com to view room layouts.
Q: What is the After Party?
A: Do you really need to ask? This is time set aside at the end of the day for everyone to kick it and hang out. It’s tons of fun, super-exciting and extremely entertaining. It is our way of wrapping up an amazing day of Wayfarer Camp. As camp approaches, we’ll give you more information on exactly how you will be able to participate.
Q: Who is 3DM,and what is their relationship with Wayfarer?
A: 3DM trains churches and leaders how to do discipleship and mission in an increasingly post-Christian world. 3DM and Wayfarer are in the process of merging, and Wayfarer is becoming the youth and young adults brand of the movement. You can read more about 3DM at weare3dm.com.
