On the Verge

Regardless of where it is, what it looks like, or when it happens, we have all been on the verge. And when we’re there, we’re tempted to give up or give in or give out. But instead, we can cut the cords and take the leap into what God has promised us. So let us stand on our tiptoes and boldly speak into the chasm of what is and what could be.

THE HEARTBEAT OF ON THE VERGE
Is it an indefinable place where the present and future collide?
OR…
Is it the point just before the point of no return?

Is it the moment you realize that what you do next matters most?
OR…
Is it the culmination of collected experiences that caution you to avoid pain at all cost?

Did you choose it?
OR…
Did it choose you?

Regardless of where it is, what it looks like, or when it happens, we have all been there. In fact, some of us are there right now — on the verge. So let us stand on our tiptoes and boldly speak into the chasm of what is and what could be.
ABOUT THE ART
Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better.
--King Whitney Jr.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.
--Anais Nin

Before every moment there is a Moment. And before that Moment, there is a series of smaller moments, influencing and inspiring, ultimately leading you to the point just before the point of no return. It‘s the point when you decide to sink or swim, fly or fall, act … or not. It’s also scary (…or not).

The Moment (before the moment) probably looks different for me than it does for you. But however it looks, we are all faced with either giving up, giving in, or giving out (sometimes all three). This makes the Moment the most important moment. Will you miss out on the life God has in store for you, or will you taste His goodness and be awakened to a new kind of living?

Don’t be left on the roof living in what is and watching what could be. Cut the cords. Swim. Act.

Fly.

SESSION OUTLINE
Session One
On the Verge
Joshua 3:7-17
We are all on the verge in our lives. And when it’s time to take a leap over the verge, we should stop and listen and hear God speak. In this session we discover that the first thing God wants to tell us is to cut the cords when we’re on the verge.

Session Two
On the Verge of Giving Up
Numbers 13:26-14:10
We all come to the verge of giving up. As we discover how the Israelites gave up when the spies reported that the people in the Promised Land were too big to overcome, we will realize that God wants to tell us to cling to hope instead of giving up on the verge.

Session Three
On the Verge of Giving In
Joshua 7:1-26
We all come to the verge of giving in. As we discover how one of the Israelites gave in to sin, we will realize that God wants to tell us to cleanse to heal instead of giving in to sin on the verge.

Session Four
On the Verge of Gving Out
Judges 1:27-2:5
We all come to the verge of giving out. As we discover how the Israelites gave out instead of completely possessing the Promised Land, we will realize that God wants to tell us to call for help instead of giving out on the verge.
