As we begin to think about who God is, we first come to the realization that God is extraordinary. He is beyond any thought we could have of Him. God is greater than our imagination.
Session Two
God is. . . Ordinary
The point: God is less than our expectation
John 14:1-11
God is ordinary. He is with us and near us all the time. But because God came to earth underdressed, God is less than our expectations. This means that we must change our faulty expectations so that we can recognize the God who is closer than we think.
Session Three
God is. . . Lover
The point: God is affected when He is rejected
Judges 10:6-16
It may be surprising to hear, but God is our lover. He chooses to be emotionally involved with us, and so God is affected when He is rejected. As we follow God and develop a relationship with our Lover, we must realize that we need to go commit to God with our whole hearts.
Session Four
God is. . . Other
The point: God is different so He can make a difference
Isaiah 6:1-8
God is other. He is different than us because He is holy and we are not. When we experience that difference, we can’t help but say “Woe is me.” But God is different so He can make a difference, and He wants us to move from “Woe is me” to “Send me.” So our holy God reaches out to us with grace to purify us and send us out to join Him in making a difference in the world.
