Breakable :: From Routine to Revival

Life is a routine, and that routine can grind us down. When this happens in our spiritual lives, we end up going through life as if God isn’t really alive and at work in our lives. But this is not the way God wants us to live.

When our lives fall into this spiritual dullness, we need new life that can only come from God. And to get this new life, this revival, we need to be breakable. As we break up the hard ground in our lives, God breaks in to lead us toward the kinds of breakthroughs that cause revival to break out all around us.

THE HEARTBEAT OF BREAKABLE
Life is a routine, and that routine can grind us down. The monotonous pressure of school, work, and responsibilities can dull our minds and hearts and souls to the point that we no longer live as if God is real. That’s the reason we need to be breakable. As we break up the hard ground in our lives, God breaks in to lead us toward the kinds of breakthroughs that cause the kingdom of God to break out all around us.

The ironic reality is that we can be fully refreshed, renewed, and recharged when we are completely broken. So join us as we release routine and become breakable.
ABOUT THE ART
But, Mousie, thou art no thy lane [you aren't alone]
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft a-gley, [often go awry]
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promised joy.
-Thomas A. Edison

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
-Albert Einstein

The grass may not be greener on the other side, but the lane of traffic next to me does move faster . . . until I get in it. Then, the lane of traffic next to me (the one I was just in) starts to move faster . . . until I get back in it. Then, the lane of traffic next to me (the one I was just just in) starts to move faster . . . until I get back in it. Then, the lane of traffic next to me (the one I was just just just in) starts to move faster . . . until I get back in it. Then, the lane of traffic next to me (the one I was just just just just just just in) starts to move faster . . . until I get back in it.

What I think is helping me is really hurting me. I'm buried beneath the rubble of my routine. As the waters of fast-moving traffic rush past me, I change lanes and take cover under my umbrella so as to not get splashed – and I end up deflecting the currents that would have taken me home. I'm too stubborn to get wet. (You won't break me, traffic.) I know that if I could just pick the right lane I would get home faster - right?

My routine has to be right - right? That's what life is (routine), isn't it? Good things come to those that change lanes frequently and don't stray from the plan - right? This is about persevering and standing fast, isn't it? That lane will move faster, won't it?

It won't. My routine was wrong. I am defeated. I am behind the wheel, broken. And yet, in my defeat, a strange thing happens - my lane starts moving (the one I am currently in! And to think I almost just switched lanes!). It moves faster and faster and faster still. Where there was once defeat, there is now victory. Where there was once routine, there is now revival.

SESSION OUTLINE
Session One :: Break In
Isaiah 40:1-5
The point: Expect something
To begin the journey from routine to revival in our lives, we need to expect something. We need to expect that God will break in to our lives. And when we expect something, we’ll discover that God is up to even more than we could have expected.

Session Two :: Break Up
Jeremiah 4:1-4
The point: Inspect everything
The second step in the journey from routine to revival is breaking up the fallow ground. The prophet Jeremiah gives us a picture of why this is so important and how we can choose to be breakable by inspecting everything about our lives.

Session Three :: Break Through
Ezekiel 11:16-21
The point: Inject the only thing
On the journey from routine to revival, we must inject the only thing by welcoming God’s Spirit as He breathes new life into our lives. As we do this, God changes our hearts of stone to hearts of flesh, and we experience the kind of breakthrough that comes only from God.

Session Four :: Break Out
Daniel 6:1-28
The point: Reflect the real thing
Once revival comes to our lives, it will naturally begin to break out to the people and the world around us. This will happen as we reflect the real thing by demonstrating what God is doing in our lives, just as Daniel did.
